The term "global village" is perhaps overused, but not, I think, without valid reason. Technological advances actually have shrunk the planet, and it is not at all strange to find citizens of one nation living and doing work in another, often literally on the other side of the globe, far from the conveniences of the known...no Cadbury's or Earl Grey to be found for hundreds of miles!

Transportation is better, and as the years and technology have improved, the whole concept of "borders" has gradually become more a convenience compared to a difficulty to trade, or to people literally moving about the entire world following economic or various other interests. Today, the idea of a "global citizen" is becoming more and more popular, and if the long term trend goes on, then the entire concept of the "nation" could become an obsolete construct.

Of course, that day is probably still quite some time off, but now, it is easy to see how such a thing might appear. We truly are becoming a global village, and while that may make some people uncomfortable (and totally terrify a few other people), on the whole, my feeling of it is that this is a wonderful thing.

One thing remains a fact though. It does not matter who you are, or where you're from, or just how long you've been away, sooner or later, almost everyone finds themselves longing for a taste of their home.
