James Schramko (online marketing expert) speaks about Productivity
One morning I walked out my front door to head to work (Yes I really did have a job before) and I noticed my roses had been hacked back to stumps! I went inside and told my wife our garden have been vandalized. As we stood out the front and looked at what once used to be a beautiful rose garden our next door neighbor stuck his head over our fence and told us he had ‘trimmed’ our garden for us.
Trimmed? Are you really serious, nothing is left…
It turned out our Italian next door neighbor was a professional landscape gardener and he told us that the most effective way to grow wonderful roses was to cut them back to the stump so that all of the vitality and energy of the flower could be committed to growing wonderful new roses rather than being wasted on the lifeless branches and old buds.
The next season our roses were unbelievable!
Since learning this wisdom I have noticed you can implement the same to business, friendships and how you arrange your time. When you trim dead wood and scale back on expired resources you provide more focus and energy to the developing assets.
Less is more.
I don’t wait until January to prune back and de-clutter. I actually do it all the time. I carry out what I call a ‘Powercut’ and start reducing everything I don’t need.
Empty your mind into a ‘later’ file
Whenever I have ideas, meetings, discussions, notes etc.. I empty my thoughts into a software called Evernote utilizing the ‘fastever’ app and Siri and then I can let go of the information for now. I can recover it when I need it using the handy search feature. A clear mind is super powerful.
